A trip to Mexico to purchase a powerful formulation of Viagra could soon be at the center of attention-deficit disorder (ADD) concerns.
But the Food and Drug Administration’s decision to begin marketing a generic version of Viagra less than a day after a similar medication — Sildenafil Citrate — hit the market in Mexico may not just be a milestone in treating erectile dysfunction but also a bold move by consumers in the United States to help them find the most affordable option they can.
“I’m very pleased with the way the generic Viagra has been formulated,” said Diana Dos Santos, a pharmaceutical company executive vice president and general manager of Pfizer’s global drug unit. “We look forward to working with our distributors, manufacturers and patients to introduce the generic Viagra, which is the same drug that is now marketed in Mexico, to the United States.”
Dos Santos, the company’s chief executive officer, told Shots the product was made in Mexico because of the country’s relatively strict regulatory requirements, which also apply to other markets.
